Praying to St. Anne to find your spouse is one of the first things I remember knowing about St. Anne. In fact, I believe she was called the Patron Saint of Single Women. I didn’t use that as the title today because I think it makes the wrong impression. The explanation I remember is that young women would pray to her for help finding a husband. While that is a nice sentiment, I don’t think it is relevant to ALL single women. Certainly, some women are called to the single life, and we need to also honor that. Meanwhile, I believe the intention is to honor St. Anne as the matriarch of her family, meaning she is probably not the first role model you would choose for someone who prefers the single life.
Today let’s pray for women who are considering the married life. Maybe it is a woman who is dating and wondering if she has found the right guy. Maybe it is a young girl already dreaming of the future. Maybe it is a woman who feels lonely and hopes to meet the right guy, or just hasn’t recognized him yet, even though he’s already in her life. Maybe it is you. We ask St. Anne to pray to her Sacred grandson on behalf of all of these women.
Personally, I am blessed with a loving husband. I say a prayer of thanksgiving every morning for the divine intervention that obviously led me to this life. Because honestly, I was too young and certainly not wise enough to make that decision.
We got married when I was 22 years old, but we got engaged when I was only 20. In retrospect, I had no idea that he was the kind of man I needed him to be. I know there were periods in our marriage, especially the early years, when living with me wasn’t the easiest thing in the world. If I consider it for too long, I am often amazed that he stuck it out with me. I wonder if St. Anne interceded on my behalf, even though I didn’t know I needed her.
Lord, we thank You for all of us who have a happy married life. We pray today that You hear the wishes of Your dear grandmother to guide those women considering marriage so they also find the happiness of a beautiful life in love.
