Feast of St. Michael, the Archangel

Today is the feast of the Archangels, Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael. This feast is always special to me since St. Michael is the patron saint of police officers, paramedics, and military personnel. With all of the police officers who have been in my family, I am particularly grateful to St. Michael for each day that they make it home in one piece, and I grieve my uncle who didn’t.

Today, I just have one family member who is still on the force, my sister. She is an amazing person and a rock of strength in our family. Among other things, her passion for school safety makes me so proud. It seems that everywhere we go on the west side of Cincinnati, we run into more people who love her, and that is the greatest indication of just how amazing she is. I cannot imagine life without her.

So, if you have a few minutes today, please join me in this prayer for her and for all the brave men and women who keep us safe:

POLICE OFFICER’S PRAYER TO ST MICHAEL

St Michael, look with kindly eyes on all police personnel.

Give them cool heads, stout hearts and the powers of investigation and wise judgement.

Make them the friends of children and law-abiding  citizens, kind to strangers, strict with lawbreakers and impervious to temptation.

You know St Michael, that the police officer’s lot is not always an easy one; but your sense of duty was pleasing to God and your angelic self control gives them inspiration.

And when their journey on earth is over, may they praise God with you and all the heavenly host.

Amen.
