In today’s devotional from Blessed is She, Megan gave such an interesting perspective on the struggle to find an appropriate way to use the gifts God gave us. Today’s Gospel was about Jesus’ teaching of the abundant harvest but not enough workers. He sent out the 12 Apostles with the power to perform miracles and the charge of winning souls.
Similarly, the Lord expects us to do the work of winning souls in the context of our daily lives. Am I heeding that call? But more importantly, as Megan described, am I letting the evil one drag me off course by getting me caught up in comparisons between myself and others who have different gifts to share?
Do I appreciate their gifts and thank You for allowing me to witness them, or do I become jealous that I am not accomplishing the same things? Do I look for ways that my particular talents would complement the work of others, or do I spend most of my time competing for attention? Do I find ways to use my gifts so that others will flourish, or do I worry too much about my own flourishing?
Let’s all pray together today that the Lord will help us to live our lives in a way that brings glory to God, without so much worry about bringing glory for ourselves. Let’s find more ways to share our gifts in the world so that, by the example of our lives, others will be drawn to God.
