Ultimately, Emily encourages us to consider the way that Jesus encountered these women and to put ourselves in their places. Her goal for I Choose the Sky is to allow all of us to become more aware of our own personal relationships with Jesus by considering the way He spoke and interacted with the women He met during his ministry on earth.
Emily says, “The words He shares with them will take your breath away the moment you realize He wants to look at you – just as He looked at them – and speak those same words to your heart. Go in peace. Be healed of your affliction. Weep no more. Your faith has saved you. You are set free.“
I don’t know about you, but this way of thinking about faith is somewhat new to me. Because I am a cradle-Catholic; I have been taught all my life that I need to pray and talk to Jesus. But I’m not sure that I have yet found that space in my faith journey where I can really imagine such an intimate personal relationship.
Honestly, I feel like I know the words I’m supposed to say, and I focus more and more on the ways I should behave and interact with others in this life. But I’m always a little jealous when I read the words of people who clearly get it on a much deeper level. I want to learn to really feel that close to Jesus, to find that strength of faith.
What about you? How do you think your faith life could be enriched by discovering a deeper relationship with Jesus? Have there been moments or events in your life that have helped you on that path? I’d love to hear what you’re thinking.
